Say hello to Karen

Say hello to Karen, who has been cycling for years but has grown in confidence on two wheels since joining the Rouleurs. Karen has Multiple Sclerosis, but she doesn’t let that stop in her way of conquering some of the toughest climbs in Yorkshire.

Karen says:

I joined the Rouleurs in 2019. I’ve always cycled and can't remember a time in my life when I didn't have a bike but only got a carbon road bike in 2018 after hiring one in Mallorca

My friend Wendy and I cycled with Liv ladies until lockdown. She then suggested the Rouleurs -  I joined the introductory ride one Saturday and enjoyed the company of the Ride Leaders who really looked after me

The pace was faster than my usual ride but in a group I was able to keep up. Rouleurs Ride Together. Most people are aware of my MS and look out for me, wind is not my friend but I have a strong head and will always do my best, again, it’s always much easier in a group

With my growing confidence on the bike I have managed to conquer hills such as Norwood Edge and Trapping Hill and I owe that to people I have met within Rouleurs.

I've lived in York all my life but still enjoy all the interesting new routes the club rides take me on.  It’s great that there is a group for all abilities so whatever level you're at you can ride  and the Committee always listen to your feedback about the rides.

Being part of the Club, it’s really nice to meet up off the bike for the social evenings. The best bit of being in the Club has been meeting like-minded people, some of whom I now ride with outside the Club too. We just love getting out on our bikes.
